First Aid for Dentists: Compliant CPD

The GDC has identified Medical Emergencies training as one of the three highly recommended topics to be completed as part of the minimum verifiable Continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

To comply with GDC standards, all dental practices should carry out regular medical emergency training, following guidance and training updates from the Resus Council. A GDC registrant must complete at least 10 hours of medical emergencies in each CPD cycle and recommends that you do at least two hours every year.

Our 3 hour CPR and Medical Emergencies course is specifically designed for Dental practices and aims to ensure that all members of staff can identify and initiate the management of clinical emergencies. This includes monitoring the patient and identifying patients who are 'at-risk' or are becoming critically ill.  This course is delivered in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines for Medical Emergencies and Resuscitation in General Dental practice.

These courses can be delivered at your dental practice (In House) or at our training venue.

The course is suited to all members of the dental team including trainees. All candidates MUST be physically able to carry out the procedures covered by the course.

Emergency First Aid at Work (Lev 3 RQF)

To comply with Health  & Safety at Work legislation, dental practice owners should carry out an assessment of first aid needs to determine whether they need to have a 'qualified' first aider.

Typically, dental practices will have at least one member of staff on site who has completed a 1-day Emergency first aid at Work (EFAW) course.  This course can be combined with Medical Emergencies training subject to prior approval.

EFAW qualification lasts for three years. The HSE strongly recommends annual CPR updates in the intervening years. The EFAW qualifies for 6 hours of verifiable CPD
